The Lottery Does More Good Than Harm The lottery, a kind of numbered ticket, is sold to people among whom a few are picked out by chance to give a prize. Some people think it has some negative effect on the society, but in my opinion, it surely does much more good than harm. Those who consider lottery harmful to the society may have the idea that the lottery is just a kind of gamble, h is true that there are some accidental factors in lottery, but this doesn't mean it is a gamble. The main difference between lottery and gamble lies in the purpose. Those who buy a lottery ticket mainly aim at repaying the society while those who take part in the gamble are tempted by money. Hence, the lottery will not do much harm as some people think it will. On the contrary, it does more good. First, the lottery offers a way to accumulate the wealth to form a fund. The little effort done by every single person will make up a big one because of the large number of people that join it. Thus, a fund can be formed to help the children whose family is too poor to pay for their education, or to promote the development of the destitute areas. Second, the lottery also makes it possible for a person to repay the society. Nowadays, what individuals think is not only what others can do for him or her, but also what he or she can do for others. The advent of the lottery offers such a way. As a result, the lottery advocates a spirit of helping each other, and thus improves the interpersonal relations as well as makes our society more harmonious. In short, the lottery can do much more good than harm and it will be more popular with the increasing number of people who realize the benefits brought by it.
